Internal med, emergency med, radiology residents join UMMC faculty

Jordan Fryoux, M.D.

Dr. Jordan Fryoux, recently an internal medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After receiving his B.S. in biological sciences summa cum laude from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 2012, Fryoux earned his M.D. at the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport in 2016. He then had his internal medicine residency at UMMC from 2016-19.

An active member of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians and the Mississippi State Medical Association, Fryoux has given two presentations at scientific meetings, including one at the national Society of Hospital Medicine meeting, and has coauthored a pair of quality improvement projects at UMMC.

Daniel Gilmer, M.D.

Dr. Daniel Gilmer, recently a radiology resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in radiology.

After receiving his B.S. in biological sciences from Mississippi State University in 2009, Gilmer served as a transport technician at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson before earning his M.D. in 2014 at UMMC, where he had his radiology residency from 2014-19.

The author of a scientific article in the Nov.-Dec. 2017 issue of the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association, Gilmer has given numerous medical student radiology lectures at UMMC.

Fernando Gomez, M.D.

Dr. Fernando Gomez, recently a house officer in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of pediatrics and medical director of the Pediatric Emergency Department.

After receiving his B.A. in biology and history from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, in 2003, Gomez served as a medical interpreter and coordinator of the AMERICO research project at St. Vincent’s Adult Medical Clinic before earning his M.D. at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Birmingham, in 2010. He then served as a house officer in the Department of Pediatrics at UMMC from 2010-13; assistant faculty in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at UMMC from 2013-16 and house officer in the Department of Emergency Medicine at UMMC from 2016-19.

Gomez has lectured in Jackson and Biloxi about caring for critically ill children. His professional interests include simulation-based training and applications of pediatric bedside ultrasound.
